New lab member: Georgy Nikolayshvili

I'm Georgy, and my PhD project focuses on the role of T cells in in situ vascular regeneration. Since completing my Master’s degree in Infection & Immunity at Erasmus MC, my research has centered on translational immunology and its application to clinically relevant challenges. For example, before starting my PhD I spent a year in Latvia working on a project investigating immune dysregulation in ME/CFS patients. Specifically, I studied monocyte responses to extracellular ATP using single-cell transcriptomics to better understand immune signaling and cellular heterogeneity.

In January, I started my PhD under the supervision of Paul Coffer, Marianne Verhaar, and Merle Krebber. My project is part of the DRIVE-RM consortium, an interdisciplinary collaboration exploring how smart biomaterials can be used to guide tissue regeneration. Within this consortium, I will develop in vitro models to study how T cells interact with biomaterials and to determine their role in material-driven vascular repair and regeneration. Because the project is highly collaborative, I will work closely with biomaterials experts and fellow PhD students at TU/e.

Outside the lab, I enjoy team sports, chess, photography, and collecting vinyl records.
